2017 27 February 2017
The 9th Joint Steering Council Meeting reported good progress in collaborations in the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city in 2016, and discussed the key thrusts to achieve the vision and long term success of the Eco-city. The meeting discussed the Eco-city’s Masterplan to enhance the Eco-city’s vibrancy and value proposition, and enhancing the Eco-city’s competitiveness through supporting policies.

The 9th Joint Steering Council Meeting reported good progress in collaborations in the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city in 2016, such as the ground-breaking of the Z4 line and the opening of the Tasty Singapore Food Product Centre. The key thrusts to achieve the vision and long-term success of the Eco-city were also discussed, such as updating the Eco-city’s Masterplan to enhance the Eco-city’s vibrancy and value proposition, and enhancing the Eco-city’s competitiveness through supporting policies.

The 7th Joint Working Committee Meeting discussed development plans leading up to the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city’s 10th anniversary in 2018. Leaders from Singapore and China reaffirmed the Eco-city’s achievement thus far, and reiterated their commitment to ensure the Eco-city’s continued development and success. On the sidelines of the meeting, we hela a ground breaking ceremony of the new Z4 line and the opening ceremony of the Tasty Singapore Food Product Centre.

The 8th Joint Steering Council Meeting reported good progress of the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city in areas such as physical development and embracing reforms and innovations. Leaders from Singapore and China expressed commitment to the Eco-city’s Three-Year Work Plan. The Work Plan comprises Sino-Singapore projects that will be launched in the Eco-city, such as the Sino-Singapore Friendship Garden and the Sino-Singapore Friendship Library.

President Dr Tony Tan visited the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city on 1 July 2015, as part of his State Visit to China. During his visit to the Eco-city, he was briefed about the city’s eco-features, and visited several sites such as the National Animation Industry Park, No. 3 Community Centre and Low Carbon Living Lab.

The 2nd Joint Working Committee meeting, which was held in Singapore, endorsed the draft Master Plan, which was then released by the Tianjin Municipal Government for public consultation.

Work begins on the Detailed Plan for start-up area (4 sq km).

The 1st Joint Working Committee was held in Tianjin and co-chaired by Minister Mah Bow Tan and PRC Minister for Construction Wang Guangtao. The meeting endorsed in-principle a set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the Eco-city.
2007 18 November 2007
Singapore and China jointly decided to select Tianjin as the location for the Eco-city. PM Lee Hsien Loong and Premier Wen Jiabao signed a Framework Agreement on the development of the Eco-city on 18 November 07.

The PRC proposed four candidate sites for the Eco-city - Tianjin, Tangshan, Baotou and Urumqi. The location of the Eco-city was narrowed down to Tianjin and Tangshan.
April 2007
Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong broached the proposal for the PRC and Singapore to jointly develop an Eco-city in the PRC with Premier Wen Jiabao, who readily agreed.
